In September of this year a commemorative plaque was placed at Veterans Park. Mason Bill Avery mounted the plaque on a large bolder at the corner of Rowland St and Wellington St. Recently some local veterans came together to view the plaque and reminisce of past experiences. Veterans Park is a beautiful, tree filled lot across from the Community Centre. One tree was planted in memory of all West Pert Veterans killed in action during WW 1. What a great park to visit, sit on one of the benches, enjoy the quiet and think about what a great place West Perth is to live and how lucky we are to have had family members who fought overseas, with many giving their lives, so we could have the freedom we enjoy today. The two benches at the park were donated by Fred and Audrey Scott, and Norman and Winnifred Dow. The plaques on the benches state they were donated “In memory of all West Perth Veterans”. So with Remembrance Day just around the corner, please take the time to visit Veterans Park, view the plaque and enjoy the serenity of this very special corner in Mitchell.
