Sports Year in Review

Branch 128 and many of its members have had a great year in sports. The following is a list of a few of the highlights from the past year.

We won the Zone regular golf championship held at #468 Hensall, and qualified for the district tournament at #236 in St. Marys.

Our PeeWee hockey team placed third at the District level held at #226 Arthur.

Cribbage team members progessed to the provicial tournament in New Liskard after succeeding at Zone in #440 Ripley and District in #340 Port Elgin tournaments.

Euchre team members also progessed to the provincial tournament yet to be held after succeeding at Zone in #420 Blyth and becoming Disctict Champions at #307 Howick.

Our branch will be hosting the Zone Euchre tournament next year in January 2009. A big thank you to the Legion and all our branches players for supporting these events, and congrats to all on a good sporting year.

Branch Members to Provincial Tournament

On Saturday February 2nd a cribbage team from Branch 128, having qualified at a zone tournament earlier, left for the District competition in Port Elgin. After some brilliant card playing by comrades Tony, Bert, Paul and Rodger, they placed 3rd out of 40 teams. They now carry the banners for Branch 128, Zone C1 and District C to the Provincial Tournament in New Liskeard on March 8th. Who knew we had such talented athletes in our Branch!

Upcoming Sports Events

Along with the Steak BBQ being held on Saturday, Branch 128 is sending euchre players to a Zone Tournament in Blyth. Also coming up soon on February 2nd one cribbage team is headed to a District Tournament being held in Port Elgin.

Square Dancing Monday Nights

Interested in learning how to square dance? or already know how and looking to dance a little more? Come on out to the branch on every Monday night, starting at 8pm sharp. Dance in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Any members and any non-members are all welcome.

Pool Update

The pool table has been moved to the east end, and the pool league is slated to restart this fall in mid-october. Other news in sports, Chairman Roger Pauli has welcomed Jamie O'Donnell as his assistant sports chairman.

District Golf

The District C golf tournament is coming up this weekend on July 7, 2007. The tournament will be hosted by Branch 236 in St. Marys at the St. Marys Golf and Country Club. Two Branch 128 members, Chuck Robertson and Keegan Teichert will be representing our zone. Good luck guys!

Sports Meeting

Mitchell Legion Branch 128 will be hosting the Zone C1 sports meeting at the branch on Monday night at 8pm. We are expecting approx. 25 members from 13 local Legions to attend. This meeting will finalize the sports schedule for spring and summer. Stay tuned for dates!
